the child that comes First.

Oldest. Child.

Those two simple words have shaped the way my life has flown. I'm sure there are numerous oldest children out there that know what kind of life this entails. There are great things. There are hard things. Times you wish you were the youngest. Times that you are GRATEFUL for being the oldest. I shall name some disadvantages and advantages that I can see for the oldest child.

Advantages:
1) Since you are the oldest, you go through things that the parents haven't experienced yet. And in a lot of ways, that can be good. You do a lot of fun stuff....haha..but then the parents learn that they won't allow that with the younger children. You win there.
2) Get privileges that the other children don't get for quite some years. And somehow, that's really enjoyable.
3) You don't have older siblings for people to judge you by. So you make your own statement a lot easier, without the pressure.
4) You get to be the only child for a said amount of years, and that can be enjoyable as well.
5) You tend to experience a more diverse life then the young kids because your parents were younger when you were born, thus they had a less "stable" (for lack of a better word) life.
6) You don't have people saying "Oh, you're Audrey's sister. Audrey was so awesome."

Disadvantages:
My little bro Andrew. When he was like...1. I think. Isn't he cute? :)
1) You don't have an older sibling to look up to and ask for advice from. In the sense that they are the most RECENTLY out of your current stage of life.
2) You end up babysitting a LOT more.
3) You have to blaze the trail for the family. And make it look GOOD. That's pressure.
4) You have to be the responsible one, take the blame, whatever, in different situations.
5) You may end up moving around more, thus having to start over as a child multiple times.
6) You have to find a way to survive in the real world, so that your siblings can see that it's possible.
7) Your parents rely heavily on you. Not that that's bad, just a little stressful at times.
8) Depending on the amount of space between you and your siblings (in my case, at LEAST 3 1/2 years), you don't have any family at college.
9) Once again, depending on the size and range of the family, you don't get to see your little siblings grow up. Which is kinda sad.

Well, that's all I can think of right now. But the conclusion I've come to is that it can just be a challenge to be the oldest sometimes. It's great. Don't get me wrong. At this point, I wouldn't change anything. But there are moments when you just wonder what life would be like as a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th child.

What a life!
