Okay. Okay. Let's get real here.

There has been something on my mind for....oh...a month or so. Which happens to be the full length of time that I have spent here at Brigham Young University.
There are some things you have to understand about BYU before this expression of feelings can let loose. Know that BYU is known for....well...relationships. Couples. Dating people. Two people of opposite sex coming together. And inevitably joining themselves together for eternity, literally. Please understand that any girl that is not married within 6 months is considered.......odd. Strange. unlike most girls. too independent. it's a discriminating atmosphere. anyways......

let me explain to you what has irked me (I AM IRKED) for quite some time now.

Public Display of Affection. PUBLIC. First off, anything with PUBLIC in it, means you should avoid as much ridicule as possible. Let me first touch on the subject of holding hands.

Holding hands is great. Awesome. Wonderful. In fact, it's the second highest place on your body with sensory nerves. Thus making it more enjoyable to hold someone's hand. But, let's be honest. people at BYU do not understand the concept of holding hands. I will admit, i'm not the expert on this particular subject, but, based on prior observation and instruction from those who are, i have a pretty good idea. FIRST) When holding someone's hand, you need to HOLD THEIR HAND. their hand. whole hand. something that i see far too often is the holding of a finger, particularly the thumb, or a pinky. how can this show affection for someone, if all you can do is hold their finger? i have contemplated this thought in the inner most part of the library, and still can't come up with a reasonable answer. SECOND) ......i forgot my second point. umm..return later.

My next point relates to those who think it appropriate to stand in the middle of an extremely busy sidewalk and just...well...have at it. That is something that should be special, and private. NOT on a campus where 32,000 other students have to preview it. i mean the least you could do is move to the side of the sidewalk and let me get to class on time without being mortified for the rest of the day. if you are guilty of this act, i plead with you to rethink your personal life and please be considerate of the freshman around you.

You might be asking, how can this girl have such a strong opinion of this topic? What is her credibility on relationships? Well....to be honest with you, no. I have no credibility. I have never been in a relationship. I'm a proud VL member. But I have had my own share of chick flicks, romance novels, heartbreaking songs on my iPod. and friends who share their own relationship quandaries with me. i am a citizen of this here country, and i have the freedom of speech, so no one can stop me. :)
