cloudy with a chance of....what?

Utah weather.

That statement in and of itself means a lot.

For those who are new to the Utah weather pattern, you should understand that there is NO pattern in Utah. We never know what could come next. Quite literally.

Spring and Fall can be non-existent some years, or they can go longer then usual.

From extremely warm summers to bitter cold winters, it's a wonder the state survives every year. It could be warm and sunny today, but tomorrow it could be raining or snowing all day.

The past 3 years have been particularly strange ones. My first winter at BYU produced so much snow that it took all summer for it to all melt. ALL SUMMER. I remember being used to just having wet feet all the time because campus was so wet that I could never walk around without soaking my shoes. Slush was a constant thing. Having to strip off layers and layers on and off before and after class became such a routine that I had to plan for it. Jacket, thick coat, scarf, gloves, etc. Underneath my chair was frequently stuffed with all of these things.

Then came last year. Where we literally had NO snow. It was relatively warm for winter. It may have snowed a few times, but nothing compared to the year before. The poor mountains had nothing. Mind you, I was completely fine not walking around in 5 inches of slush and snow every day. It made school feel a little more bearable. But as a result, we had a very dry year and another drought seemed eminent.

Now there is this year. How do you even describe it? Moderate winter conditions to early snow blizzards then BITTER cold temperatures (the highest being 10 degrees) for over a month. So cold that the tips of my hair would be frosted over as I walked to work or class. Inversion after inversion. Creating nasty air to breathe and nasty winter illnesses made worst then normal. And then mother nature decided to hit us with rain. Freezing rain. The entire northern state was covered in a blanket of slick and shiny ice. Nothing could be funnier then seeing all of campus move like little grandmas and grandpas. People slipping and sliding everywhere. Definitely a scary but entertaining experience.

Has school ever been cancelled because of such weather conditions? Surely it has.

No. In my entire 15 years of schooling, I have never experienced a snow day. Even though states who get 2 inches of snow get snow days. Nope. Foot of snow outside and still snowing? You still have to come to school. No matter what. Schools hate us.

And now it's a blizzard again. Joy.
